This is the first mosaic I ever made incorporating three dimensional elements. The cup and creamer are from the set of dishes we received for our wedding. When it was time to replace them, I couldn’t quite let go, so I decided to use them in a piece of art.
I’ve always had this piece marked as a ‘sample’ but I’m finally ready to sell it.
The edges of the piece were finished with clay colored grout, which was then distressed.

I love to incorporate not only the feeling of depth but the feeling of motion in my mosaics. If you look inside the creamer you’ll find ‘cream’, while the coffee cup has ‘coffee’ inside.
The border is made with black stained glass. The background is red stained glass. The china has a navy blue border with a gold pattern. I used blue grout to finish the piece.

The bold black and white linear design of the coffee mugs inspired this mosaic. The geometrics are continued on the ‘tablecloth’ and ‘walls’. If you peek inside the cups, you’ll see they have ‘coffee’ inside. You can almost smell the aroma of the coffee wafting upwards with the steam.
I used black, pot white opal and for the steam, silver Van Gogh glass. Black grout was used to finish the piece, including the edges.

I enjoy incorporating Scrabble letter tiles in my mosaics and I love puns. On this piece, I’ve combined the two, to create a teapot pouring ‘tea.’
If you remove the lid of the teapot, you’ll find it is filled with ‘tea.’ There is real gold on the rims of the cups and the edges of the saucers of the beautiful china I used in this mosaic.

The Mad Hatter’s Tea Party in Alice in Wonderland inspired this mosaic. The lid of the tea pot is removable and if you look inside, you’ll find it is filled with ‘tea.’ The tea is being poured into a mismatched set of china, which is how I’ve always pictured the tea party.

If you peek inside the teapot, you’ll find ‘tea.’ There is ‘sugar’ in the sugar bowl and ‘cream’ in the creamer. The lids of the teapot and sugar bowl come off.

The inspiration for this piece came to me while having an MRI for my shoulder I injured while creating my mosaics. We had recently gone to a tasting at the Minhas Distillery in Monroe. (Love those Groupon coupons). I had my first taste of moonshine there and loved their Apple Pie flavor. Thinking about the moonshine, I knew I had to make a still. As soon as I was out of the MRI, I asked for paper and a pen so I could sketch the design.
The still uses copper tubing with the ‘moonshine’ dripping into the traditional mason jar.

The cork is blasting off in this champagne celebration. You’ll notice the champagne flutes are already full. That’s because the celebration is so festive a second bottle had to be opened.

My nephew graciously sacrificed himself to provide me with the Bombay Sapphire bottle. The background is pale blue stained glass. The ‘table’ is darker blue stained glass. I used silver mirror glass for the border and ‘gin’. Sadly, this piece fell off the wall at a gallery. I was crushed, as were the martini glasses.

Cheesehead Wine

I found this bottle of Cheesehead Wine on display at our local liquor store one day. There it sat on the counter, proudly wearing its cheesehead hat. I didn’t even care what the wine tasted like, I knew I had to make a mosaic out of it.
The Green Bay Packer glasses are vintage from the early 70’s. Our local gas station gave one out with every fill up. We had the whole set, both sizes and used them regularly at dinner time.

This was the first piece I ever made incorporating a wine glass and wine bottle. One of my cats had knocked one of my favorite wine glasses off the counter, on to the floor. Since the cat wasn’t allowed on the counters in the first place, I wasn’t happy. The bowl of the glass was intact, but the stem had broken off just above the base. I decided I had nothing to lose by trying to cut it in half lengthwise. It worked out perfectly, as you can see.

If you look inside the pots, you’ll find there is ‘soil’ inside to keep the flowers healthy and blooming forever. There are gorgeous flowers made of millefiori growing in them. Millefiori means 1000 flowers. The water is made from silver Van Gogh glass.

As a scuba diver, there’s nothing I like better than enjoying the sea life on a reef. I’ve never seen killer whales on a dive, but I’ve shared the experience with all the rest of the critters in this piece.
The glass used for the ocean had a subtle wave-like pattern which you can see if you look closely. I also arranged the glass to mimic the feel of ocean currents.

When our family camped when I was a kid, there were always times when it rained. I didn’t really mind, though, because that was when we pulled out the board games. We also spent many beach vacations playing cards. Do you see your favorite game?
The frame is made from Dominoes. I used black glass for the background. I made the playing cards from fused glass. I included Trivial Pursuit pieces, Clue pieces, chess pieces, dice, Monopoly pieces and a Battleship piece.

This mosaic was inspired by the Campbell’s soup bowls/mugs, which I found at St. Vincent de Paul. We all grew up eating Campbell’s soup; it’s a comfort food.
If you look inside the soup bowls, you’ll see they’re filled with ‘tomato soup’, just ready to eat. The Scrabble tiles framing the piece are some favorite soups.

In this mosaic, an artist’s mannequin has become the artist. He has his paint brush and palette in hand as he creates beautiful paintings. The painting the mannequin is working on is not attached to the easel and can be replaced.
